Cliff Bleszinski: Marcus must die in the next Gears of War

The franchise creator believes it's time to turn the page on this character

Gears of War was a game-changer for Xbox and became one of the pillars of the brand. However, after a studio change, various installments, and the passing of years, there seems to be fear of letting go of the past, and fans believe it's time for a change. While the future of the franchise remains unclear, its creator believes that something significant needs to happen, something that will change everything.

CLIFFY B THINKS IT'S TIME FOR MARCUS FENIX TO DIE IN GEARS OF WAR

Moments ago, Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski set social media ablaze by tweeting what he would like to happen in the next installment of the franchise. According to Cliffy B, "if Gears 6 is in development, Marcus Fenix must die," an idea that was seconded by fans who immediately participated in the tweet, stating that they want to see such a change in the new game, if it is the continuation of Gears 5, as they want JD Fenix to definitively take the baton and continue his father's legacy.

At the same time, Cliffy B's post was responded to by fans who claim that for them, the franchise ended with Gears of War 3, accusing The Coalition's installments of being too conservative and not taking risks to move beyond the past built by Epic Games, to do something that feels fresh and innovative for the IP.

Recently, the Gears of War creator revealed that before the transition from Epic Games to The Coalition, he thought about making a radical change to the franchise by presenting a more brutal experience, but it would have required changing the perspective to first-person. The idea of making significant modifications after the trilogy's conclusion was there, but Microsoft opted for The Coalition to play it safe, and today the IP is in the shadow of what it was in its glory days.

What do you think about the idea of letting Marcus rest in Gears?
