With infamous examples like 1993's Super Mario Bros. and 1994's Double Dragon, video game adaptations had a terrible reputation for many years. Fortunately, the landscape is much more favorable today. As proof of the maturity of franchise-based productions, we have the successful The Last of Us series.
JACK BLACK PRAISES THE LAST OF US SERIES
On the subject of the release of Super Mario Bros. The Movie, Jack Black, the actor who plays Bowser in this production, spoke about the rise of video game adaptations in an interview with the BBC. There, he took the opportunity to praise The Last of Us show and share which franchise he would like to have a movie or series.
In the chat, the prestigious actor and musician asserts that he is a fan of adaptations, as long as they are done correctly. He cited the series based on Naughty Dog's video game as an example.
"The Last of Us was fantastic. And what's crazy is how faithful it is to the original material. It's basically the entire game with just a couple of tweaks. It's going to win all the awards. They used the video game almost as a storyboard, and I was like, 'Wow, this looks the same'", the actor said.

Now, which franchises should have their own adaptation? The actor is clear about it, as he believes that Red Dead Redemption should come to the cinema or television because he thinks it "has an equally good or even better story than The Last of Us."
"And there are some great games that haven't even been explored on TV or film. Maybe there will be a Red Dead Redemption movie? There should be because I think [it has] an equally good or even better story than The Last of Us," the celebrity said.
Certainly, Jack Black is a fan of adaptations. Not only does he play Bowser in Super Mario Bros. The Movie, but he also voices Claptrap in the Borderlands film. Will we see him in a production based on Red Dead Redemption? Only time will tell.
In addition to Jack Black, Henry Cavill, the actor who played Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher and Superman in DC Comics films, would also like to see a film based on the Rockstar Games franchise.
