Alex Hirsch is an American voice actor, animator, writer, storyboard artist, and producer. Hirsch became insanely famous for creating the excellent series Gravity Falls among his most recognized work. Even though the series only has two seasons, there were more than enough to deliver one of the best stories in animation. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend doing so. You won’t be disappointed, promise.
This week, the show turned ten, and Hirsch shared some announcements regarding Gravity Falls’ anniversary on Twitter.

But Hirsch didn’t stop the Gravity Falls conversation there. Even though his first tweet celebrated the series’ anniversary, along came another kind of news. The creator of Dipper and Mabel just released an entire Twitter thread with fragments of emails from the Disney team. These messages display the censorship level of the company against many puns and punchlines Hirsch created for Gravity Falls. And I must say, most of them are just plain ridiculous.
One last treat. Ever curious about the fights I had with the censors on Gravity Falls? I probably shouldn't share this buttttt here are some REAL NOTES from DISNEY S&P and my REAL REPLIES. You are not prepared #10YearsOfGravityFalls pic.twitter.com/EioKU8gIJJ

This is not the first time Alex Hirsch has dropped a tweet against the big mouse. Last year, Disney shared a post on social media regarding Pride Month: “There’s room for everyone under the rainbow.” Knowing all the censorship issues they had with Gravity Falls, Hirsch couldn’t help but react to the tweet:
Disney privately: Cut the gay scene! We might lose precious pennies from Russia & China!

Disney publicly: 🤡 Honk honk we put rainbow bumper sticker on Lightning McQueen today CONSUME OUR PRODUCTS TEENS https://t.co/1eco8YgaoP
Many fans found out how Disney was in real life. After it was officially announced that the company was cutting out LGBT+ scenes from all of its content to reach a broader audience, it was only a matter of time before Hirsch spoke up about it. Many fans even reached out to him as the truth kept coming out.
And to top it all, Alex Hirsch left the evident inconsistency of censorship when he was limited by it, but The Owl House (in which he participated from the creative side) could successfully tell a story with a Latinx LGBT+ main character. By the way, this is also a fabulous TV show you should watch right now.
In 2012 the Disney censor note on this image would have been:
— Alex Hirsch (@_AlexHirsch) August 9, 2020
“inappropriate for channel, please revise, call to discuss” (to avoid a paper trail)
Now in 2020- there’s no note at all.
Props where props are due! This time, Disney- you did good. pic.twitter.com/HLDux1jNUk
If there’s something to admire from Alex Hirsch’s fixed point against Disney’s actions, it is that he’s not afraid to confront the giant corporation. He knows how the world works, from the good and bad sides. He just demonstrated which side he’s picking and that, sure enough, he will continue to display it publicly.
