Fans continue to criticize the Overwatch sequel

With all the news that will come in the Overwatch sequel, fans have expressed their opinions about their disagreement with the next installment, mainly because they emphasize that everything they have shown seems more like an update than a new game of the franchise.

A few months ago, fans had the opportunity to play in the Overwatch 2 Closed Beta, and that's when they began to express this thought. However, recently Blizzard announced a special live event focused on the new title to reveal more details about the game; it was here that fans believed they could see significant changes for the new title.

Despite all the announcements by Blizzard, even making the game a free-to-play and with a battle pass, fans continue to think the same; Overwatch 2 does not seem like a new game, if not rather a DLC of the original title.

OVERWATCH 2 SHOULD HAVE BEEN AN UPDATE?

Clearly, like any game has its genre, Overwatch is a hero shooter; therefore, its gameplay will be maintained in its second release, and although when trying the new title, it might seem that Overwatch 2 could seem at first glance as something more of the same if it includes several important novelties at the gameplay level.

Let's remember that, unlike other games, Overwatch does not include a campaign mode or have a significant narrative; everything is focused on its only game mode; therefore perhaps that is why many have the perception that the game does not change so much, since many times that is what many players take into account when seeing the sequel to a game.

One of the announcements that were made at the last Blizzard event was that Overwatch 2 aims to stay fresh and as a title that can last for years with new content, unlike what we could get from the original title.

But, as we already mentioned, many changes have been made in the new title that cannot be perceived at first glance and many of those changes are more focused on the gameplay level with attack balances and certain modifications that can be significant for the pro players of the video game.

WHAT CHANGES WERE THERE AT THE GAMEPLAY LEVEL?

If you're familiar with how matches go, you may have noticed that Overwatch matchups feature a lot of skill and shield trading, not so many eliminations.

If we remember correctly, the tank and shield characters usually used the strategy of going out in front of a team, thus creating barriers for teammates to hide behind and therefore being a game focused on how to use the abilities of each character while they continue advancing protected by the great barriers.

In Overwatch 2, they removed one of the two tanks from the list, changing their format to a 5v5. This will change the game. If you think about it, with one less shield, matches could be shorter, a damage hero can try to attack without the fear of the other tank on the team chasing him down to take him out, and now there will be fewer shields and abilities with the ones to deal with.

Definitely, with that single change, we will be able to notice differences at the gameplay level and a little more balance between the characters, thus denoting more the abilities of the players to attack and not so much on how to make the same strategy to protect an area.

“This is a great direction to take and build on,” said Jonathan “Reinforce” Larsson, a commentator for the league. "If Blizzard can deliver on its promises and release more content, turn it into a live service game, I think we're in a very good place as a franchise."

Now, it will only be missing for the launch of the new title scheduled for October 4 and see if the opinions of the majority of the fans remain the same or not, once the game is already tested by both casual and Overwatch League players.
