The Last of Us T.V. series will premiere through HBO Max and HBO (in countries where that channel/service is available separately) in early 2023. Casey Bloys, content manager from the brand owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, has been asked in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter when we should expect the series. "It is closer to the beginning of 2023," the executive replied.
PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures Television announced a television adaptation of The Last of Us in March 2020. Neil Druckmann, director of The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II, is writing the script alongside Craig Mazin, creator of the award-winning Chernobyl series that premiered in 2019. Filming began in the summer of last year.
Will the show encompass the plot from the first game's story?
The HBO series will not follow the events of the first installment of the saga but will be both a reinterpretation and an extension of the events.“Things sometimes stay pretty close. It’s funny to see my dialogue there from the games in HBO scripts. And sometimes they deviate greatly to much better effect because we are dealing with a different medium,” said Executive Producer Neil Druckmann, IGN reported last year.
As for the artists who will participate in the production, Pedro Pascal is interpreting Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Anna Torv as Tess, Storm Reid as Riley, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Barlett as Frank, and Nick Offerman as Bill. Also appearing in unknown roles are Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Brad Leland, and Murray Bartlett. Gustavo Santaolalla will be the composer of the soundtrack.
