Twitch viewership fell and Facebook Gaming escalated in June

Tables have turned!

According to StreamElements and Rainmaker.gg's monthly State of the Stream report, during June Twitch viewership was on the decline. Most people think that the changes in user terms, recent controversies and scandals have taken their toll, making many streamers and viewers migrate to other platforms.

The report revealed that during June, Twitch audience numbers were down, remaining at 1.7 billion hours viewed, falling 6% compared to May.

Also in the Top 10 most viewed content, which is led by the "Just Chatting" category, most of the audience recorded declines, leaving positive numbers only for Valorant and Minecraft broadcasts which maintained their regular percentage.

When someone falls… somebody else rises

Surprisingly, Facebook Gaming demonstrated incredible growth in June, with hours watched up 21% to 425 million. A StreamElements representative told GamesIndustry.biz that the difference in performance between the two platforms came from their focus.

Twitch has always been directed at PC and console games, while Facebook Gaming has been more focused on emerging markets. Actually, YouTube Gaming also appeared in the conversation with 290 million hours of live gaming videos watched in June; however, it leans heavily into mobile titles, besides the platform enjoys popularity which usually lets creators rise to the top much faster.
