Things are getting out of hand on Minecraft, or at least on certain message boards and social media as the community is flooding them with threats after developer Mojang won’t back down after a controversial move to open private servers up to moderation and account-wide player bans.
Fans started the hashtag #SaveMinecraft, explaining how they see Mojang’s decision as an existential threat to the massively popular game.
Of course, there are many theories going around, the strongest one being that the policy change is coming from Microsoft and not from the developer itself, so the tech giant is also in the eye of the storm.
What is happening exactly?
Last Wednesday the latest update for Minecraft: Java Edition, v1.19.1 was implemented, and according to Mojang’s update FAQ, players can now report one another for “inappropriate chat messages or dangerous behaviour,” even on private servers. “The type of behaviour that will get you banned is hate speech, bullying, harassing, sexual solicitation, or threatening others.”
As expected, reports await to be revised by moderators, who will determine the follow-up action. Going from a short suspension to player bans. As you may have guessed, this didn’t sit well with players who are pretty sure that this tool could be abused to wreak havoc on private servers.
Some hated it:
Whelp. 1.19.1 is out. Minecraft Chat Reporting is now a thing.

If Mojang thinks that every skilled coder who is against this system won't try and embarrass them by breaking this system, I would bet against Mojang.
Not a threat btw. Just calling it like it is.#SaveMinecraft
And some defended it, trying to explain to people why moderation is needed and asked for:
Java Minecraft's Chat Reporting is officially here now that 1.19.1 has been released.

Amongst the hysteria and misinformation, let's share something that is truly scary...
Reasons why it is, in fact, needed and asked for.
(another thread)
Neither Mojang of Microsoft have released any kind of statement, and we doubt they will, as the FAQ article notes why the safety of Minecraft players is at the heart of why they are releasing Player Reporting in the first place.
