Do you remember the League of Legends MMO? Well, we gotta admit that there is not much news about it since its unexpected and passive announcement back in 2020. But don’t worry it isn’t cancelled, all this time was intended to be like that.
According to Riot’s VP Greg Street they announced it early into development because "it would likely leak, anyway”.
Street shared this information in a lengthy Twitter threat yesterday, answering to one of the most asked community questions.
One of the most common questions we get is why we announced the League MMO in such a weird way and when we will provide more real information. There was actually a strategy in place here!

Apparently, the early announcement was the idea of Riot’s CEO, aiming to recruit MMO experts to develop the game, so it's way easier to put the news out there than posting job ads until someone grew interested in it. That is not all, as mentioned at the beginning of this article they were aiming to excite players too and prevent a leak because they knew it will eventually leak anyway.
Okay, but there is actual news?
You should know that MMOs are not precisely quick to develop. As mentioned by Street himself "Everyone more or less knows how to make one. The challenge is actually doing so, and the massive cost and time it takes.”
Often in this business, you worry about someone scooping you, but that is harder to do with an MMO. Everyone more or less knows how to make one. The challenge is actually doing so, and the massive cost and time it takes.

So yeah, you will have to wait for a while until Riot develops something that they can show. Actually Street noted that another benefit of the project's low-key reveal is that the team can work freely on plot points and features without fans putting extreme pressure on them.
When developers are under a lot of pressure because they know players are so eager, it can make it harder to toss out designs that aren't working. Games are hard enough to make when you game is secret and under wraps let alone with a bright line shining on you.

We know that this means another two years of silence but we are happy to know, that at least the project is not cancelled… for now.
So sorry / not sorry about that wait. /thread
