Genshin Impact cheat creators jailed!

HoYoverse is serious, very serious

Genshin Impact's popularity is massive and what happens when a game gets massive? Usually, an infinite number of cheating tools are created that sometimes get sold to extremely high numbers.

HoYoverse has been dealing with this situation for a while, even though most of these cheats seem to fly under the radar thanks to the game being a mostly single-player experience; however this time, the company turned to the authorities to put a stop to it.

After a year of a vicious legal battle, the company finally won against a little group that distributed cheats for its game. The little clique managed to generate thousands of dollars with the sale of cheat software. And as expected guilty parties will pay significant sums of money for damages and, in addition, will spend several years in prison.

Yeah… that was a bad idea

This case dates back to June 2021, when HoYoverse discovered a group of subjects developing cheats for Genshin Impact. At first, the studio succeeded in their arrest with the help of the authorities, however their sentencing came only now.

According to details, the group sold approximately 40,000 access keys to use cheating software. In this way, it generated about $300,000 USD at the expense of HoYoverse's work. As you can imagine, the company is not happy with what happened, as the subjects harmed their business and the entire game community.

As a result, three people will pay for their misdeeds with quite severe punishments. The group leader will spend 4 years in prison and have to pay a fine amounting to $50,000 USD. One of his main accomplices will be in jail for 3 years and 10 months, and will also have to pay the same amount of money for damages.

Finally, another person was sentenced to 1 year 6 months in prison and a fine of $10,000 USD. The report claims that some of the cheating allowed to have infinite Primogems, so it is considered great damage to the company.

This is not the first time something similar happened, as HoYoverse previously took a leaker of the game to court. The individual in question received exemplary punishment and was fined $78,000 USD.

Maybe think twice before doing it… Do you think the sentence is too severe? Share your thoughts in the comments
