A new PS5 model arrived in Australia, and it looks promising

The new model is supposed to be as light as the digital version at launch

According to an article found on Press Start, Australia was the first to have the scoop on a new PS5 model that supposedly makes the console lighter. So how are they making the console less heavy? It’s still unclear, but it’s actually working.

The report shows that the brand-new CFI-1200 series models of the PS5 weigh less than the launch consoles. For example, according to the manuals provided, the CFI-1202A model weighs 3.9kg (compared to the 4.5kg of the launch version.) And the CFI-1202B digital model (without the disc drive) reportedly weighs 3.4kg, compared to 3.9kg at launch.

Each model will weight is as follows:

PS5 STANDARD EDITION (WITH DISC DRIVE)

  • CFI-1000A (launch) – 4.5kg
  • CFI-1100A (2021) – 4.2kg
  • CFI-1200A (2022) – 3.9kg

PS DIGITAL EDITION (WITHOUT DISC DRIVE)

  • CFI-1000B (launch) – 3.9kg
  • CFI-1100B (2021) – 3.6kg
  • CFI-1200B (2022) – 3.4kg

What’s funny about this is that the new model of the PS5 standard edition now weighs the same as the Digital Edition did at launch. How crazy is that? This is not the first time that the PS5 has received a weight treatment. In July 2021, Sony shared its CFI-1100 series. These consoles also weighed less than the launch versions.
