Splitgate is an indie first-person shooter that had its breakthrough after the team at 1047 Games decided to launch their free-to-play open beta. Obviously, the game surprised the community and quickly became extremely popular.
The shooter was often described as a Halo-inspired battle royal plus wormholes and it was pretty easy to understand, players can create portals between two points on the map, and then fire weapons or travel through them.
All things come to an end…
Going from a simple game to a real sensation was something that shocked its developer studio and through a statement, the team at 1047 Games confirmed that they made the decision to halt the development of future Splitgate updates.

After long consideration, the studio decided to stop working on updates for Splitgate to concentrate on developing a new FPS game in the universe. Their intention is to be able to deliver a game that revolutionizes what Splitgate already offers rather than evolving slowly.
This new game will take many of the elements of Splitgate. So, the community should not worry, portals will still be there, also is worth mentioning that the game will be free to play and will be built on Unreal Engine 5.
Now… the important question is, will the game still be active? Yes! Even though the studio is not going further with it, the game will remain online and players will be able to keep all their items and progression.
In addition, a new Battle Pass will be available starting September 15 and will be available to everyone. The game will also continue to receive small updates. Thus, the only thing that changes is that most of the development will be devoted to the new release.
