Play while you can!

Overwatch players already should know that the last day to play the original Overwatch is just around the corner. Recently Eurogamer had the chance to participate in a roundtable interview, where Blizzard's commercial lead Jon Spector explained that the company is planning to shut down the original game's servers just days before the second game's launch on October 4.

This means that the last day to play Overwatch 1 will officially be October 2nd on Spector's own words:

"So roughly a day before Overwatch 2 launches, we're going to be taking down the Overwatch 1 servers... So that means, as a practical point, that October 2nd really is the last day to go in and play Overwatch 1. And then it's a 27-hour downtime that we're planning in order to get the Overwatch 2 server stood up and running.”

How are preparations for Overwatch 2 going?

As you may know, Overwatch 2 will arrive early next month as a free-to-play title and things seem to be going as smoothly as possible. Actually, on the same report, Spector also mentioned that players will be able to pre-load the second game "a little bit ahead" of launch. That is not all, Blizzard also plans to share a checklist with players ahead of the release so they have a smooth experience when the launch day arrives.

Remember, Overwatch 2 will be available as a free-to-play game getting rid of loot boxes and replacing them with a battle pass and an in-game store, using a new currency called Overwatch Coins. Now, speaking of platforms it will arrive on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
