While some dropped the model, the streaming company is working hard on it

Netflix is doing everything it's in their hands in order to consolidate its own cloud gaming platform trying to succeed where others have failed… Google?

According to information from TechCrunch,  Netflix Vice President of Gaming Mike Verdu revealed important news regarding the future of the company. First of all, he confirmed that the streaming giant is seriously exploring a cloud gaming offering, which we shouldn’t be taken lightly as cloud gaming is the model looking to conquer the gaming industry.

He noted that the company is seeking to add value: “It’s a value add. We’re not asking you to subscribe as a console replacement. It’s a completely different business model. The hope is over time that it just becomes this very natural way to play games wherever you are.”

In case you missed it: Google STADIA was not successful and will close its service in 2023

All or nothing

On the other hand, Verdu also shared the inauguration of a new development studio in Southern California. Which will be led by Chacko Sonny, ex-executive producer of Overwatch at Blizzard.

Interestingly Verdu mentioned that by now Netflix is developing over 55 games, all of which include experiences based on original IPs like “Stranger Things,” as well as licensed IPs like Spongebob Squarepants. That is not all, the company is also developing original games so there is a long path ahead of us.

A lot to learn from

As expected the vice president did comment on Google’s STADIA situation, where he firmly stated that he believes that the failure of those products was because of their business model, not because of the technology they used.
