Mexican director Carlos López Estrada in charge of Your Name' live-action remake

The director is an Academy Award-nominee with interesting works under his belt

You may or may not know Mexican director Carlos López Estrada at least not directly, we are sure that you have enjoyed many of his projects among them Blindspotting (2018), SummerTime (2022) and Raya and the Last Dragon (2021) along with Don Hall.

No? Okay, if you are not the movie type we are sure that you have at least seen Capital Cities’ music video "Kangaroo Court” or  Billie Eilish's "When the Party's Over”… He even directed Katy Perry’s special song collaboration with Pokémon “Electric”.

This man has been working everywhere, and all that hard work has been paying off, according to Variety, López Estrada has been chosen by Paramount, Bad Robot and Toho to rewrite and direct the live-action remake of the wildly acclaimed anime movie Your Name.

A lot of expectations coming…

Of course, I hope you already have watched Your Name, because if you haven’t you have been missing out, as the 2016 film is considered a modern classic, and you already (or not) know what they said… The person you watch the movie with, is the one you will spend your life with. Yeah… we love romantic internet-sayings.

But wait there is more! López Estrada is also writing the current script or re-building it as the first version was written by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer, known for his work on Arrival (2016) and Bird Box (2018).

The remake is also reported to be produced by J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella, Jon Cohen, and Genki Kawamura, the latter, is the producer of the original film. So, with these few details, you can theorize that this is a highly ambitious project.

Expectations are high and to be honest, we are also a little concerned as usually American adaptations of Japanese media are not exactly… good. But we have all our trust in López Estrada as he has proved to be the right fit for this project.
