Mass production of Apple AR could start in March 2023, with the device expected to be released by the end of next year. Now, however, new details about Cupertino's first AR visor appear to have leaked out thanks to an AR-related job offer from Apple that has recently appeared online.

Reporting the job offer and its contents are Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who, in the latest installment of his Power On newsletter, said he is confident that Apple AR will be released in 2023, that it will cost between $2,000 and $3,000, and that, under the shell, it will have an Apple Silicon M2 chipset and the RealityOS operating system.

What we know about this project so far

According to Gurman, RealityOS itself will have AR versions of Apple's major apps, such as Messages, FaceTime and Maps. The journalist then reports that the first version of the operating system, which would codename Oak, would be nearing completion at Apple's developers and should be finally ready as early as early this year. It is precisely at the beginning of 2023 that Apple AR is expected to be unveiled, which, however, could anticipate its launch by several months, somewhat like what happened years ago with the first Apple Watch.

Apple's new job offer would focus precisely on Apple AR's software: the company would be looking for a software engineer for its TDG, or Technology Development Group, the "top secret" team working on the augmented-reality visor for years. Not only that, the job offer explains that the developer will have to help create a 3D world in Mixed-Reality, suggesting that Apple would be at work on a kind of proprietary Metaverse.

In case you missed it: Players show their disappointment in the delay of Starfield.

Specifically, the job offer explains that the developer will need to "build tools and frameworks to enable connected experiences in a mixed reality 3D world. You will work directly with Apple UI frameworks, interface designs, and system engineers, who will push you to think outside the box and solve incredibly complex and interesting problems in the 3D application world."
