They are aiming to help aging canine brains

Besides being an entertainment source, video games can help in a number of situations, some of which probably never crossed our mind before, however, we are happy to know that there are people who are interested in developing them like the story we have to share with you today.

The name is Joipaw and they are a U.K.-based startup developing video games for dogs! But not any kind of games, their objective is to improve our dog’s health.

Sometimes you need a little bit more…

The project started after Joipaw co-founder Dersim Avdar (who is an avid gamer himself) pondered the dog game concept as a way to keep his and his wife’s dog Kawet occupied. Our fur friends sometimes require a little bit more attention than we can provide, so, he didn’t want Kawet to stop playing when he wasn’t there for it.

He started working and realized the idea might have deeper potential to aid dogs’ health, according to a 2017 study from the Fourth International Conference on Animal-Computer Interaction; simple touch-screen games had potential cognitive benefits for dogs with aging brains.

Of course, Avdar didn’t doubt for a minute and now Joipaw is running on a dog-friendly touchscreen prototype which of course is saliva-resistant.

How does it work?

These dog consoles rely upon the touch screen as the dog play with their snouts.

The games included so far are a whack-a-mole challenge and a bubble test which will reward the dog if it can guess correctly which side of an image contains more bubbles. Both games get progressively more difficult and offer benefits to our pet’s brains, also maintaining them happy as if the dogs succeed, the console dispenses treats.

Sadly, we don’t have a release date for Joipaw, as Avdar is still working out a pricing model for both the device, a subscription and a global leaderboard. Also, the start-up is developing even more games so even humans can join the fun and can spend time together with their doggies.
