Oh… Fans discover Half-Life 2 model was textured with real medical book photos

Wasn't expecting that

Half-Life 2 was released in 2004 but this doesn’t mean that new things can’t be discovered in the game… or at least where they come from. Some days ago in the r/eyeblech Subreddit, a user uploaded a set of photos from a forensic medical book, everything was “fine” until another user commented, “oh hey 1st one's the Half-Life 2 corpse01”.

Well, guess what? They were right as Youtuber Richter Overtime took the time to put together every time the texture has been used in a video and made a comparison of the original photo and the model in his Twitter.

In case you missed it: Half-Life 2 VR gets public beta next month!

Well, that was… unexpected

This is not strange, when we talk about video game development, it is a known fact that sometimes designers have to resort to very unorthodox references when designing games of this type. For example, Mortal Kombat 11, Dead Space and Left 4 Dead have used medical books, car crash, drowning and firehouse photos as reference material for their designs and it shows, however it is known to be only as references and so far seems like they haven’t used any of them directly in their games.

While using this source material may sound a little bit morbid is pretty “normal” in this type of game, but yeah… still a little bit weird.
