After sharing interesting thoughts on Nintendo Switch 2, GamesIndustry.biz head Christopher Dring intervenes on one of the hottest topics of this early 2023, namely the reboot of Fable's development on Unreal Engine 5 reported by a 'deep throat'.

The GIbiz boss then decides to participate in the heated discussion fueled on social media, precisely by the rumoured reboot on Unreal Engine 5 of the new Fable chapter entrusted to the care of Playground Games (the developers of the Forza Horizon series) and destined to land on PC, Xbox Series X/S and Game Pass.

Are the rumors true?

According to the claims of the self-styled leaker who shared these anticipations on the pages of the controversial 4chan forum, Playground has reportedly decided to halt the development of Fable on the ForzaTech graphics engine in August 2022 and then switch to Unreal Engine 5, depending on the greater flexibility of the tools built into Epic's cross-platform engine.

According to Dring's report, the rumours in question are false and, consequently, should not be taken seriously by those eagerly awaiting new information about the next instalment of Microsoft's role-playing saga.

In November last year, on the other hand, Matt Booty of Xbox Game Studios thought it fair to point out that Playground is the right team for Fable, reporting that the authors of Forza Horizon 5 are big fans of RPGs and have "great technological base" (the ForzaTech graphics engine that drives Forza Horizon and Forza Motorsport) on their side.
