The last chapter of HBO's The Last of Us had strong emotions and references that captivated hard-core fans. Without a doubt, the surprise appearance of Anna, Ellie's mother, surprised the community, since she is a character that is barely mentioned in the original games. However, it seems that there were plans to explore her background.
ANNA, THE MOTHER OF ELLIE, WAS ABLE TO STAR IN THE PREQUEL TO THE LAST OF US
Following the season finale, Neil Druckmann, producer and co-director of Naughty Dog, took part in the Kinda Funny podcast, where he discussed the TV show and the franchise's future. There, he revealed that they wanted to delve into the story of Ellie's mother in a prequel title.
The manager confirmed that this project would be in charge of another study, and even commented that they held talks to reach an agreement. However, the game did not come to fruition, and the idea was abandoned.
“There was a complete version of this story that went back further in time, and it would be made into a video game, not by Naughty Dog, but by a different studio. Greg Miller introduced me to that studio, and we talked with them for quite a while to get that done. But then it didn't work out,” Neil Druckmann said.
Unfortunately, the creative refrained from revealing more details about it, so why the project was canceled is a mystery.
In the same interview, Neil Druckmann confirmed that Naughty Dog is working on a new project beyond the already announced multiplayer based on the post-apocalyptic saga. Of course, he assures that The Last of Us: Part III is not the next great game from the study, since he affirms that there is something that excites them more. What will it be? We'll have to wait to find out.
