The awaited game will debut before month's end

As the release date of Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment's new game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, draws closer, excitement and curiosity abound. Recently, various media outlets had the opportunity to try it out and share their initial impressions. It was revealed that the game will feature white lightsabers, and this could potentially have significant implications for its storyline.

According to GamesRadar, a user on the Star Wars Jedi subreddit recently shared a video of the lightsaber customization in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The system appears to be similar to that of the previous game, but with a more elegant presentation and additional options.

What caught the attention of many was that at the end of the clip, the game gives players the option to choose from different colors for their lightsabers. These colors include blue, green, purple, yellow, cyan, magenta, indigo, orange, and white.

As an expert on Star Wars lore would know, the color of a lightsaber depends on the kyber crystal that its owner inserts into the hilt. Under normal conditions, kyber crystals are colorless, but they take on a color once they bond with a young Jedi. The color of the crystal is determined by the user's spiritual alignment, with blue and green being the most common, but there are also other colors like purple. The situation changes when it comes to red and white lightsabers, as their colors are derived from something other than just their contact with a young Jedi.

It turns out that the red crystals of Sith lightsabers come from a process in which the Force within the kyber crystal is tortured until it turns red. On the other hand, white lightsabers come from red crystals that have been purified by a Jedi.

Now the question is: do the white crystals in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor appear only as a cosmetic option or do they signify something more? In Fallen Order, players could only customize their lightsabers with blue or green colors until Cal Kestis arrived at a cave on the planet Ilum, where kyber crystals are obtained.

If Star Wars Jedi: Survivor follows a similar path, then we can assume that the white crystal will be obtained at some point in the story. Will Cal Kestis obtain the white lightsaber through some connection to the High Republic, or perhaps by purifying a red lightsaber belonging to a Sith? We will have to wait and see. Maybe in the end, it will only be a cosmetic decision.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will arrive on April 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
