While all eyes are on the Super Mario Bros. movie right now, a sector of the community is starting to wonder when a new mainline game in the franchise will be announced. While there's no clear answer, Shigeru Miyamoto shared a hint that should reassure fans.

Super Mario Odyssey took the world by storm in 2017 and immediately became a fan-favorite installment thanks to its level design and gameplay. Since then, we've seen the release of spin-offs and ports of classic titles like Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.

However, when will we learn about the next mainline title for Nintendo's mustachioed plumber? The franchise creator briefly spoke on the subject and, while he refrained from revealing much information, gave a small hint worth noting.

Recently, Shigeru Miyamoto participated in an interview with Variety to discuss the highly anticipated release of the Super Mario Bros. movie. When asked about the announcement of a new video game, he simply stated that fans should stay tuned for future editions of Nintendo Direct; all while maintaining a big smile on his face.

While the Japanese creative was careful not to reveal substantial details about the project, he practically confirmed that the reveal of Mario's next adventure will take place during a Nintendo digital event. Of course, we'll have to wait for more information to come.

The latest Nintendo Direct took place in early February 2023. It's possible that in the coming months, there will be another edition of this popular digital program. Will that be where we see the announcement of the new Super Mario Bros. game?

But tell us, when do you think the new title will be revealed? Let us know in the comments.
