The tough economic landscape continues to affect several people who unfortunately lose their jobs. Now, a new round of personnel cuts has come to Amazon, in which hundreds of employees from its video game division lost their jobs.
According to Bloomberg, as part of its recent waves of layoffs, Amazon cut nearly 100 positions from its gaming divisions. The affected employees were from Prime Gaming, their studio in San Diego, and Game Growth.
In a statement, Christoph Hartmann, vice president of Amazon Games, told his employees that this process is a restructuring in which they are looking to leverage their resources to "focus on content." He also mentioned that they will continue to invest in their "internal development efforts" and that their studios will continue to "grow."
The executive also pointed out that employees who remain with the company will continue to work on a project that Amazon Games has not yet announced. Additionally, he stated that they will continue to invest in distributing third-party games, as they did with Lost Ark, and in the future they will do the same with Tomb Raider.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first round of layoffs at Amazon. Earlier this year, they cut 18,000 positions, while in March they cut 9000 more positions. That last round severely affected Twitch, their streaming service.
