While it has gained a cult following over the years and forged a loyal fanbase, the original 1993 Super Mario Bros. film is universally considered one of the worst video game adaptations. Actor Seth Rogen is among the group of people who despise this production.
In a recent interview with Variety, Seth Rogen, the actor behind Donkey Kong in the latest adaptation of the popular Nintendo video game franchise, spoke about the original plumber-starring movie starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo. Certainly, what he said was far from positive.
"When I was 11, I saw the original Super Mario Bros. movie and I was so excited. But it's one of the worst movies ever made, I was so disappointed. I think it made me realize that movies could be bad... that had never happened to me until that moment. It really bummed me out," commented the Hollywood celebrity.
Seth Rogen is confident that the latest Illumination and Nintendo feature film will meet fans' expectations. "It's nice to redeem that moment. It's good to know that 11-year-olds won't be disappointed in the same way I was," he highlighted.
While the new Super Mario Bros. movie is a more faithful adaptation and respects the essence of the original video games, it was unable to escape negative criticism. Most unfavorable reviews claim that the story is basic and overloaded with references and fan service. But tell us, do you agree with Seth Rogen? Let us know in the comments.
