Super Mario Bros. for NES is undoubtedly one of the most important video games in history. In addition to its effective gameplay and memorable aesthetics, its music is one of the most important elements and is now part of pop culture. This achievement did not go unnoticed by an important cultural institution in the United States.
This week, the Library of Congress of the USA shared the list of the 25 songs that will join the National Recording Registry, a list that recognizes important melodies that impacted American society and reflects the culture of that country.
Surprisingly, the main theme of Super Mario Bros. from Nintendo made history by being the first theme from a video game to join the list.
Through a Twitter post, the Library of Congress of the USA recognized Koji Kondo's work and the transcendence of the musical theme of the NES video game.
"A musical theme from a video game, probably the most recognizable in history, is also new to the National Recording Registry. Koji Kondo's Super Mario Bros. theme helped establish the game's legendary status and demonstrated that Nintendo's sound chip was capable of great musical complexity," reads the statement.

To create a video game, all kinds of skills and talents are needed. Undoubtedly, music is one of the most important elements of the experience, even though it does not directly affect gameplay in most cases. It's admirable that the plumber's theme received recognition from the Library of Congress of the USA.
It's worth noting that the main song of Super Mario Bros. will join the registry along with Daddy Yankee's Gasolina, John Lennon's Imagine, Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You, and many more.
But tell us, what is your favorite melody from the franchise? Which video game song do you think deserves the same honor? Let us know in the comments.
