U.S. Senator slams PlayStation, demands Sony to show exclusivity deals

Senator Kevin Cramer has joined other representatives in demanding an investigation into Sony's exclusivity practices to see if they are acting against Microsoft. Cramer, a Republican senator from North Dakota, sent a letter to Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida expressing concern about what he sees as the company's protectionist acts to maintain its gaming business by evading competition conditions.

Cramer requested that Sony publicly release unedited documents detailing how it agrees on exclusivities with third-party companies, as he believes it is necessary to know the process, consensus between companies, and justification for not releasing games on competing platforms like Xbox.

He also asked for the agreements that Sony made with third-party companies, including clauses requiring that certain video games not be released on Xbox Game Pass, to be disclosed. Finally, he requested copies of the documentation and review process for Bungie's acquisition.

Senator Kevin Cramer justified his actions and implications by pointing out that the video game industry in North Dakota generates more than $20 million for the state's economy and, although currently having a workforce of 221, he believes there is potential for more than 6,000 workers in the next ten years.
