Craig Mazin, producer of the HBO show, confirmed that they are still working on the script

For 9 weeks, the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us won the hearts of thousands of viewers. It has been over a month since the first season concluded, so fans are starting to wonder when the new batch of episodes will arrive. Unfortunately, it seems that the wait will be long.

Details about the successful television show's Season 2 are scarce, but it is expected that the new episodes will adapt at least a significant part of the franchise's second video game. Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal will return in their respective roles.

Unfortunately, the community will have to wait to see Ellie and Abby's story on the small screen. This is because its premiere still looks distant.

WHEN WILL THE SECOND SEASON OF HBO'S THE LAST OF US PREMIERE?

During a recent talk at the NAB Show Live in Las Vegas, USA, showrunner Craig Mazin and more members of the production talked about The Last of Us live-action series. There, they confirmed that Season 2 is still in the scriptwriting stage, which potentially means that its premiere is far off.

This coincides with Bella Ramsey's previous statements, who speculated that the new episodes of the TV show would not arrive until late 2024 in the best-case scenario. She even talked about the possibility of moving the premiere to early 2025.

However, there is good news for all those who enjoy this production and do not want it to end in the next batch of episodes. What happens is that Craig Mazin commented that there is still "plenty of story to tell" and expressed his desires for The Last of Us series to last more than 2 seasons. "Our plan is to do it for one more season at least. We should be here for a while," he stated.

A few weeks ago, the showrunner and writer commented that the events of The Last of Us Part II give room for more than one season. Also, Naughty Dog's creative director, Neil Druckmann, commented that the show would only adapt the story of the video games and not go beyond that.

Anyway, the premiere of the new episodes of the successful HBO series looks distant. We will have to be patient, and it is possible that more details such as the release date, the actors who join the cast, and more will emerge in the coming months.

But tell us, are you looking forward to Season 2? Do you think it will meet expectations? Let us know in the comments.
