Mortal Kombat 2 will start filming very soon; these would be the new villains. The film will feature beloved characters from the franchise. The Mortal Kombat cinematic reboot had very good results in its 2021 premiere. Although it received mixed reviews from critics and performed poorly in theaters due to the pandemic, it was a resounding success on HBO Max. Its performance on the streaming platform motivated Warner Bros. to authorize a sequel, which will begin filming very soon.

A recent report from Geek Vibes Nation indicated that filming for the second installment of Mortal Kombat will begin in June 2023 and last until September of the same year. It seems that once again it will take place in Australia, where the first movie was filmed a few years ago. Producer Todd Garner reacted to this information and hinted that it is real.

Details about the plot remain a mystery, but it appears that fans can expect classic franchise characters to return. According to a report from The Hashtag Show (via ComicBook), the film will feature 4 villains: Sindel, Quan Chi, Baraka, and Shao Khan; the latter possibly being the main antagonist. In addition, there is talk of Kitana's debut.

It is noteworthy that Johnny Cage is absent from this report, but he is likely to have an important role in the live-action film. At the end of the first movie, it was hinted that he will be recruited by Cole Young and fight in the tournament to protect Earth.

Anyway, it is important to note that this report lacks official confirmation at the time of writing, so it is not a guarantee that these characters will appear in the movie. We recommend taking this information with a grain of salt and waiting for a formal announcement. Due to production starting in 2 months, we may learn more details about the plot and actors joining the cast in the coming weeks.

We remind you that Simon McQuoid returns to assume the role of director in Mortal Kombat 2 and Todd Garner is once again the producer. Finally, Jeremy Slater, known for his work on Marvel's Moon Knight, is in charge of writing the script. It is expected that the actors who participated in the first film will return and reprise their roles.

But tell us, do you have faith in this production? Do you think it will be better than the first movie? Let us know in the comments.
