Square Enix unveils new partnership, but fans are disappointed and concerned

The company will continue to invest in blockchain gaming for long-term

Despite all the criticism, Square Enix continues to push its projects related to NFTs, blockchain and Web3. Proof of this is that this morning it announced a partnership with Elixir Games, a company specializing in services to create and integrate blockchain-based economies into video games.

Through a statement, Square Enix revealed that it will work with said company to give more visibility to Web3 games and offer new experiences to traditional gamers. As you can imagine, fans of the studio are disappointed and concerned, as they have repeatedly raised their voices against Square Enix's plans.

Square Enix to push blockchain games and its fans are not happy

Hideaki Uehara, director of business development at Square Enix, stated that this alliance will allow them to take another step closer to completing one of their goals: exploring the realm of decentralized games based on the blockchain and Web3.

To this end, Square Enix will work with Elixir Games and Elixir Platform on projects that have not been disclosed for now. With this, it is clear that the developer will continue to invest in such technologies despite criticism from its players.

"Through the partnership with Elixir, Square Enix continues to be at the forefront of global publishers adopting web3 gaming, having previously indulged in investments and partnerships with key companies in the space," the statement said.

As soon as the news was revealed, gamers used social media to once again lambast these plans by Square Enix. Many claimed to feel disappointed with the path the studio is following, so they asked it to stop with this kind of investments.

Other gamers even claimed that the company is finished and that it should better invest all this effort in improving its titles. Of course, some fans took it with humor and shared memes.
