Love it or hate it, Call of Duty is one of the most important and lucrative franchises in the video game industry. While it is in the eye of the storm due to Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, it is already preparing a new release for next year. Mind you, it's not what you expect.

What happens is that Activision revealed Call of Duty: The Board Game, a new board game that aims to translate the concepts of the military franchise's video games and bring them to a new medium. The company in charge of this project is Arcane Wonders, responsible for RWBY: Combat Ready and Hello Neighbor: The Secret Neighbor Party Game.

CALL OF DUTY WILL HAVE ITS OWN BOARD GAME

This new strategy game will kick off its Kickstarter campaign in the fall to fund a special edition and is expected to hit retail stores worldwide in vacation 2024. The base 2-player version will cost approximately $50 USD, although 2 boards can be combined to create sessions for up to 4 participants.

This project will be set in the Modern Warfare reboot of 2019, so it will feature weapons, maps and characters from those games. Of course, its authors have already stated that it is not an adaptation of any title, since it is a new installment of the franchise. This also means that it will receive new content after its release.

"Call of Duty: The Board Game is a series of products within the same game system, and starts with the initial basic sets. From there, additional products will add new features such as operators, weapons, maps and even new game modes over time," sentenced Bryan Pope, game designer.

"We already teased some future content, including zombie [mode]. There are so many cool characters and places within the Call of Duty world that we want to explore and share with fans in a board game," Pope said.

While the franchise belongs to Activision, Arcane Wonders is in charge of producing this project. It is for this reason that it is resorting to crowdfunding to raise funds. The game designer revealed some details about how this experience will be played, and confirmed that as the launch approaches he will share more details.
