It's been over a month since the last episode of The Last of Us arrived on HBO. Although Season 2 looks distant and most of the details remain a mystery, fans are starting to wonder what the plot will be and who will be the actors involved in the project. More importantly, will Bella Ramsey return?
While it's too early to know, producers Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have already hinted that Season 2 will adapt the second video game, or at least a part of it. They consider that the sequel's plot will need more than one season to be adapted.
So, fans of the controversial The Last of Us: Part II know that there is a time jump and that the plot revolves around Ellie, who is now 19 years old instead of 14. Thus, the community ensures that Bella Ramsey, the actress who played Ellie in the first season, is too young to portray the character in her adult phase.
That said, what do the show's responsible parties think? In an interview, Neil Druckmann, co-founder of Naughty Dog and producer of the TV show, expressed his desire for the 19-year-old actress to return to play her character in Season 2 and beyond.
“I can't imagine that version of Ellie being anyone else (...) We're extremely lucky to have Bella, and the only way we'd ever consider doing another audition is if Bella said, 'I don't want to work with you anymore.' Even then, I'm not sure we'd grant her that. We could still force her to come back for Season 2," Neil Druckmann said.
On the other hand, producer and screenwriter Craig Mazin supported these statements and expressed his interest in having Bella Ramsey play Ellie in Season 2 of The Last of Us. Regarding criticism of the actress's young appearance, he emphasized in an interview with The Wrap that she is 19 years old, just like the character in the second video game.
"It will sometimes be radically different, and sometimes it'll be barely different, but it'll be its own thing. It won't be exactly like the game. It'll be what Neil and I want to do. We're going to do [Season 2] with Bella," Craig Mazin said.
So, everything indicates that the young actress who played Ellie will repeat her role in the next batch of episodes. When will it arrive? Everything seems to indicate that there is still a long time to return to this post-apocalyptic world, as Season 2 is still in the writing phase.
