Could Rockstar Games' title stop receiving updates on PS4 and Xbox One?

Although it may be hard to believe, Grand Theft Auto V debuted 10 years ago. One of the reasons it is still popular is undoubtedly its multiplayer component, GTA Online, which still receives regular updates on all platforms. However, the community believes it is only a matter of time before that changes.

We must remember that Grand Theft Auto V originally debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. However, the version of GTA Online for those platforms stopped receiving support and eventually closed its servers. Now, only players on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC can access the multiplayer component.

However, with the new generation of consoles in full swing, the community fears that the older versions of the game's multiplayer component will stop receiving updates and, at worst, close their servers.

These concerns arose after famous insider and Rockstar Games expert Tez2 reminded everyone that the development studio recently announced a "service update" for Grand Theft Auto Online. What does that mean? It's hard to say, but both the influencer and players fear that it's only a matter of time before the multiplayer stops receiving support on older consoles.

This is pure speculation, but it's not far-fetched to think that Rockstar Games will do away with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, especially now that Sony and Microsoft's new consoles are thriving following the end of the shortage.

We will have to wait to find out if the studio will stop supporting the PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA Online. In case that happens, the servers will likely continue to remain active for some time. Only time will tell.

But tell us, do you think the game's days are numbered on those platforms? Let us know in the comments.
