Life is Strange became one of the most popular franchises in the graphic adventure genre. The first game debuted in 2015 and built a large community around it by presenting a supernatural story that relied on real and close topics. However, 8 years after its release, caused controversy one more time.

In 2010, a 28-year-old woman named Sunday Blombergh lost her life. According to reports, her own in-laws murdered her over a dispute related to the custody of her 7-year-old daughter, Isabella. Before authorities found her body in the forests of Georgia, she disappeared on April 22 and the family posted black and white posters with a photograph and descriptions to locate her.

Before continuing, it is important to note that there will be spoilers for Life is Strange.

In 2020, Isabella, Sunday Blombergh's teenage daughter, noticed the parallels between her own mother's death and the death of Rachel Amber, a fictional character of Life is Strange. The TikTok video regained strength and put developer Don't Nod in the eye of the hurricane.

The fact is that both Rachel and Isabella's mother disappear on the same date, lose their lives in a similar way and share similarities in their personal stories. Even the missing person posters are almost identical. Perhaps the most interesting thing is that both share some similar physical traits, such as the color of eyes, tattoo positions and height.

The Life is Strange poster asks people to call (555) 388-6020 to contact the sheriff and provide information that may help find Rachel's whereabouts. Sunday Blombergh's poster had the same number with a different area code.

Everything seems to indicate that the French studio Don't Nod drew inspiration from the Florida woman's case. However, Isabella stated in a TikTok video that her family was never contacted. "I'm also confused. I understand taking the template of the poster, but taking my mom's description is a bit weird. I'm conflicted, but I love the game," she commented.

Skylur, Sunday Blombergh's nephew, commented that Rachel Amber's personality is similar to that of his aunt. "My grandfather, Reign Blombergh, broke down when he first heard about it because he felt like people wouldn't leave him alone. It seems like the general consensus in the family," he said in a statement to Kotaku.

The studio refused to comment on the issue, as it claims that "they cannot talk about Life is Strange without Square Enix's consent, as they own all the intellectual property rights."

But tell us, do you think it's just a coincidence? Let us know in the comments.
