CEO Andrew Wilson believes that consolidation will be part of the industry's future

The purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is up in the air without a clear resolution. The CMA blocked the acquisition a few weeks ago, so Xbox is hoping that the European Commission will approve it to recover from this tricky situation. Meanwhile, the rest of the companies in the sector are waiting and watching, although Electronic Arts remains indifferent.

IS EA CONCERNED ABOUT MICROSOFT BUYING ACTIVISION BLIZZARD? NOT AT ALL

During a Q&A session on EA's latest earnings call, CEO Andrew Wilson was asked about the implications for the video game industry if Microsoft completes its purchase of Activision Blizzard.

The executive acknowledged that he is frequently asked that question and stated that he does not know what will happen with the purchase. However, he expressed confidence that the outcome would not affect them in general terms, as Electronic Arts is "Microsoft's biggest partner" and the "number one publisher on their platform."

Andrew Wilson trusts in his IP library and the talent of his studios, so he believes they can lead the future of entertainment and compete in the market, regardless of whether the Microsoft-Activision Blizzard deal goes through.

The CEO comments that there is likely to be significant and broad consolidation in the video game industry in the long term, so he wants Electronic Arts to be ready in case it ever gets involved.

“I would love for us to have the scale to be a meaningful consolidator in that space. I think that we have tremendous assets with respect to the future of entertainment. But as it stands today, I think that we’re indifferent as to whether Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through or not. We feel like we have an incredible strategy, we feel like we have an incredible opportunity and whether it goes through or not we will continue to be the number one publisher on the Microsoft platform," the CEO said.

But tell us, do you agree with the Andrew Wilson's words? Let us know in the comments.
