Due to its great reception and outstanding ratings, HBO's live-action series The Last of Us was given the green light for a second season. Everything seemed to indicate that the new batch of episodes would begin filming early next year in Vancouver, but there could be a change of plans.
On May 2, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) called for a strike to improve the pay and working conditions of writers in the country, after negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers failed. The movement continues and has already affected the production of multiple series and movies.
THE NEW SEASON OF THE LAST OF US ON HOLD DUE TO THE WRITERS' STRIKE IN THE UNITED STATES
According to reports, The Last of Us Season 2 has suffered the consequences of the writers' strike. According to sources from Variety, production was suspended earlier this week, so the scheduled filming calendar could be modified, and consequently, the release date delayed.
Multiple sources indicated that before production went on hold, the casting team asked the actors to read dialogues directly taken from The Last of Us: Part II. The reason? The scripts for the second season of the HBO series are not yet finished.
According to reports, Craig Mazin, the showrunner and co-creator of The Last of Us adaptation, has been seen on strike with his WGA colleagues. It seems that he is currently not writing or producing for any project. For his part, Naughty Dog director and writer Neil Druckmann is not involved at the moment in the production of Season 2 of the HBO show.
We will have to wait to find out if the writers' and screenwriters' strike in the United States finds its resolution in the coming days.
But tell us, what do you think of this situation? Let us read you in the comments.
