RUMOR: PlayStation canceled a sci-fi AAA shooter

Reportedly almost half of the responsible studio lost their jobs

The era of PlayStation under Jim Ryan's leadership has been marked by some sudden changes, leaving behind what we knew during the PS4 era. Today, Sony's brand seeks to strengthen its AAA offering and will focus on services. However, it seems that what doesn't convince them or fails to meet high-quality standards is doomed at this time, and that would have been the case for an unannounced project.

According to Insider-Gaming, Twitter user "Timur222" provided evidence obtained from an anonymous source that reveals the cancellation of a sci-fi shooter that was in development by Final Strike Games within PlayStation but had not been announced. The project had supposedly been in development since 2021.

According to Final Strike Games' official website, the game they have been working on since 2021 is a new PvP franchise AAA shooter, allegedly coming to console and PC. The information indicates that its theme was science fiction and it was a PlayStation project that would probably be exclusive to the PS5 console with a PC debut.

Unfortunately, the (unofficial) cancellation of this project reportedly cost 40% of Final Strike Games' employees their jobs. At the moment, PlayStation has not revealed anything about it, but considering it was an unannounced project, it is likely that nothing will be officially unveiled, and the revelation will remain with those who were part of its development.

The news comes days after it was confirmed that PlayStation closed PixelOpus, the studio behind Concrete Genie, and rumors suggest that this was due to the brand not wanting AA productions, but rather everything will have to be AAA or service-based to stay relevant in PlayStation Studios.
