The development team didn't want to add a function that wouldn't be used in the game.

Almost everyone in the gaming world stopped to look at the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In fact, millions of people are taking advantage of this weekend to explore the corners of Hyrule once again and have just discovered something terrible.

Although The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did many things right, there were some aspects that didn't fully satisfy fans of the series. The sequel tried to improve in some areas, and while it succeeded in several, it was not possible to do so in others, and unfortunately, a missing feature from the original title returned for Tears of the Kingdom.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO PET THE DOG IN THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TEARS OF THE KINGDOM?

We're talking about petting or cuddling with dogs. In Breath of the Wild, Nintendo decided to add dogs, which can be found at rest stations and can even play with Link and help him find some items. However, as much as players wanted to, they couldn't make Link pet the dogs, something that disappointed them. Apparently, Link is too busy saving Hyrule.

The bad news is that Nintendo apparently turned a deaf ear to fan feedback, as it's also not possible to pet dogs in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

WHY CAN'T YOU PET THE DOGS IN THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: TEARS OF THE KINGDOM?

"In terms of design philosophy, it didn't fit with how we designed the open world. It's all about taking a small number of actions and using them in every possible way," said the IP's main responsible person, Eiji Auonuma, when asked by IGN about the inability to pet dogs in Breath of the Wild.

In other words, the development team doesn't care whether you can pet the dog or not, if the function doesn't serve any other purpose in the map or story, they simply won't work on it. And apparently, the team remained steadfast in that stance for the sequel.

Anyway, this is certainly unfortunate because it's almost unthinkable that in a game that decides to implement dogs, players wouldn't have the option to pet them. In fact, in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, this is sadder because the dogs apparently want to play with Link (even exposing their chest and belly for him to pet), but it's useless since Nintendo didn't include any interaction.

It's a shame, as thousands of users pointed out on social media. The original tweet from an account dedicated to informing whether it's possible to pet dogs in games was extremely popular and reached 10 million views.

There's a user who even joked about the situation and mentioned that "if you pet him, his durability would run out and he would break," making fun of the hated feature of weapon breaking, which returned in the sequel.

What do you think of this absence in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Let us know in the comments.
