Another major video game company wants to raise the price of their games and sell them for $70 USD

It seems that soon the only alternative will be to wait for sales

Companies such as Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive, PlayStation, Xbox, and even Nintendo have decided that their most ambitious or next-generation games should be more expensive. This is why a lot of releases are now being offered for $70 USD instead of the $60 USD they cost until recently. No gamer likes this, so we regret to inform you that another important distributor is considering joining this trend.

Recently, SEGA, home to franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog and Yakuza, announced that they are considering the possibility of starting to sell games for $70 USD. While this increase will not be reflected in all its titles, the company is considering offering some significant releases at that price.

SEGA revealed this in a recent meeting with investors, where Haruki Satomi, CEO, and Koichi Fukazawa, CFO, were questioned about the possibility of raising prices. In response, the executives said they are reviewing market conditions so that some of their releases can be offered for $69.99 USD.

"In the global market, AAA console games have been sold for $59.99 USD for several years, but games sold for $69.99 USD have appeared in the last year. We would like to review the prices of those titles that we think are commensurate with a price increase while keeping an eye on market conditions," explained SEGA's executives.

As you can see, SEGA's intention is not for all its games to start costing $70 USD, but rather its high-profile productions will. Thus, if you are one of those gamers who usually buy all the AAA games on the day of release, you have to be prepared to spend more.

Remember that in August 2020, Take-Two was the first company to announce an increase in its games, with NBA 2K21 being its first release at $70 USD. PlayStation and Activision followed suit with their next-gen releases. Later, Electronic Arts and Square Enix raised the price of new releases, and this month, Nintendo and Xbox launched their first $70 USD games.

What do you think of this news? Will you continue to buy SEGA's new releases on the day of their release for $70 USD?
