The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a resounding success and has earned accolades from many celebrities, renowned creatives, and even Disney. Sony's top executive has already seen it and also spoke wonders about Nintendo's franchise.
Sony has just held its latest board meeting, where it was possible to ask questions to Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totori and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida.
SONY'S TOP EXECUTIVE HAS ALREADY SEEN THE SUPER MARIO MOVIE
Interestingly, without being directly asked, but to answer a question about expansion and investment plans in IP, Yoshida revealed that he was a fan of Super Mario when Super Mario Bros. debuted in 1983 and played it "intensely."
Yoshida mentioned that he recently saw the Super Mario Bros. movie and took the opportunity to refer to the Super Mario IP as "beautiful and wonderful" and highlighted how a beloved and well-cultivated IP stands the test of time.
"I played the Super Mario game 30 years ago. I was so intense playing the title," recalled the executive. "A beloved IP can survive 20, 50 or even 100 years. That's something we want to invest in for sustainable growth."
In that sense, Totoki mentioned that IP content remains the primary matter of strategic investment, whether it be anime, movies, video games, etc.
"Entertainment can connect people," concluded Yoshida.
