When will Final Fantasy XVI arrive on PC? They share bittersweet news

PC players will have to wait to enjoy Square Enix's title

Without a doubt, Final Fantasy XVI is shaping up to be one of the standout releases of 2023. However, since its announcement, it has been controversial due to its temporary exclusivity with PlayStation 5. Is a version for PC in development? When will it debut? Unfortunately, these questions lack a 100% clear answer.

The original announcement indicated that the role-playing title will debut for PS5 and PC, although shortly after, Square Enix clarified that it is a temporary exclusive for Sony's next-gen console. At the beginning of this year, producer Naoki Yoshida refused to talk about the PC port.

At the end of February 2023, Yoshi-P finally addressed the issue of temporary exclusivity. In an interview for the PlayStation Japan blog, he indicated that the team would like to release a PC version at some point, but they do not know when it will happen.

"If we start optimizing the PC version after the launch of the PS5 version, we won't be able to do it in 6 months, so it won't be released within that timeframe. We would like to release it eventually, and we think we will, but right now, we are not at the stage where we can say when," commented Yoshida a few months ago.

THE FINAL FANTASY XVI PC PORT LOOKS DISTANT ON THE HORIZON

Is there already a release date for the aforementioned Final Fantasy XVI PC port? Unfortunately, the news is bittersweet. During his trip to Square Enix's offices in Tokyo, Japan, journalist Wesley LeBlanc from Game Informer questioned Naoki Yoshida about the computer version.

The journalist indicates that, judging by the Japanese creative's responses, it seems that a PC port is in development. However, he comments that the producer suggested that it will take more than 6 months for players to know anything about the project, if it happens at all.

We must remember that the exclusivity period leaves the door open for a PC version to debut 6 months after the original release on PlayStation 5. However, Yoshi-P has already made it clear that optimizing the port will be a task that will take more than half a year.

With this in mind, it appears that Sony's next-gen console will be the only place where fans can play and enjoy Final Fantasy XVI in the short term.

But tell us, do you think there will be a PC port? Are you willing to wait? Let us read you in the comments.

Final Fantasy XVI will arrive on PlayStation 5 on June 22nd.
