The transition to digital format in video games is advancing rapidly, and it seems that the future doesn't sound so good for those who prefer disc or cartridge titles. At some point, it would happen that a big production would do away with a physical edition, and today was the moment, as Alan Wake 2 will only be available in digital format.
ALAN WAKE 2 WILL NOT HAVE A PHYSICAL EDITION
After the reveal of Alan Wake 2's release date, Remedy Entertainment announced that their new production will only be available in digital format. According to the company, there are several reasons why this decision was made. First, they point out that they have thought about users who opt for consoles that only run digital games, such as the PS5 in that version and the Xbox Series S because, in the end, they are cheaper. As for PC, physical editions are a thing of the past.
Then, Remedy noted that not releasing Alan Wake 2 on disc allows it to be cheaper, priced at $59.99 USD for consoles and $49.99 USD for PC.
Finally, it seems that the decision to only release Alan Wake 2 in digital format has to do with its size and business expectations since Remedy mentioned that they did not want to offer players a disc version for consoles that would require a download to complete the game file. This suggests that it is not in the company's plans to release a physical edition that includes 2 Blu-rays.
Excuse us, @remedygames, @SamLakeRMD, we're all for sparing the world with incomplete disc releases, but do you really not want this blockbuster to be preserved on a physical medium? Why not put it on two discs then? This is beyond disappointing. Please think it over.#AlanWake2 pic.twitter.com/jwKl8kiX44
