It's a robbery! A man trades an N64 for a Zelda OLED Switch and the internet loses its mind

Many people ended up offended by a deal they were not part of

Many times we can have objects whose value is much higher than we imagine and we end up selling them for less than their real value. For the Internet gamer community, that was precisely what happened to a guy who traded a Nintendo 64 for a Nintendo Switch OLED of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Recently, a video went viral showing a man who traded in a boxed Pikachu Edition Nintendo 64, a boxed NES, and several classics for N64 and SNES in exchange for a Nintendo Switch OLED and $700 USD in cash. The trade took place at Hey Bro Video Games, a store in Houston, Texas that posted the exchange on Instagram.

The video began to be shared by several people who believe that the customer was scammed. Among the comments, we can see people showing screenshots of others offering the Pikachu Nintendo 64 in exchange for $850 USD.

"I can't believe he got robbed like that in broad daylight," said a Twitter user.

"Hello, Houston police? I'd like to report a robbery," said another social media user.

Kotaku contacted Hey Bro Video Games staff, who assured them that they had not noticed that the post had gone viral, nor were they interested in seeing the comments. They also revealed that they posted the video simply to show that gamers can bring them retro products and receive money or consoles in exchange. The company employee also told them that they usually give a trade-in value between 60% and 80% of the price for which they sell it.

WAS IT REALLY A ROBBERY?

Now, was it really a robbery? As Kotaku mentions, with the cash and the console, the customer got a total value of $1060 USD. On the other hand, the lowest value for what he brought is as follows:

  • Pikachu Nintendo 64 - $350 USD
  • Boxed NES - $250 USD
  • Super Mario 64 - $100 USD
  • GoldenEye 007 - $75 USD
  • Mario Kart 64 - $120 USD
  • Super Mario All-Stars - $60 USD
  • Super Mario Kart - $75 USD

Adding all these amounts together gives us a total of $1030 USD. So, it can be said that it was a fair deal. Of course, the value of these retro games can vary and be higher in proper conditions, but for that, you have to find someone interested in paying that amount of money.

And you, would you have traded all this for a Nintendo Switch OLED? Who do you think won in this exchange? Tell us in the comments.
