Esports team signs Stranger Things actress, causing controversy

Grace Van Dien has joined FaZe Clan, but not without a dose of controversy

The American actress, who gained fame for her role in Stranger Things, has now turned to the world of streaming. She has already made a name for herself and has just been signed by one of the most famous esports organizations, but she has also been involved in controversy.

Van Dien caused a stir when she announced in March of this year that she would be stepping away from acting after experiencing harassment, including sexual insinuations, from a film producer. This experience angered her and she stated that streaming was healthier for her mind. Unfortunately, the young actress has not completely escaped controversy and negative experiences, as she was at the center of controversy this past weekend.

GRACE VAN DIEN'S SIGNING WITH FAZE CLAN WAS CONTROVERSIAL

This is because on May 25th, the entertainment and professional esports organization FaZe Clan announced that Van Dien, known on Twitch as BlueFille, would be joining the group.

"I saw them as an organization with 'bro' culture, but everything changed when I met them in person, to the point where I feel them as a second home," the former actress said. "From my first meeting with FaZe, we shared the same vision of working together to create lasting change for female gamers. We chose each other for a reason and I'm excited to take on this role to help drive women forward. LET'S GO."

While there were several members of the organization, such as Nate Hill and DSG Toast, including women like Pokimane and Valkyrae, there were other original members who did not agree with this and spoke out.

One of the most vocal was Faze Rain, who criticized those responsible for the treatment in the organization for not including them in the process. Faze Banks, FaZe Adapt, and FaZe Censor joined to show their disapproval, which highlights the problems within their membership.

The community was also divided, as some supported the decision to include Van Dien on the team, but there were also others who questioned her position, as they shared Rain's sentiment that FaZe Clan signed her just for appearing in Stranger Things.

The actress did not remain silent, but also spoke out in the midst of the controversy to address these claims and replied that while her involvement in Stranger Things may have been the catalyst for FaZe Clan to meet with her, it was ultimately other reasons that led to her being accepted.

"FaZe Rain said the only reason I was signed to FaZe is because I was on Stranger Things," the actress commented in a VALORANT stream. "Excuse me, sir, were you in the meeting with us? Were you there? No, I've never f***ing met you. And that's not why I got signed. Yes, that's how I got the meeting; (...) the things we talked about in the meeting were why it happened. So screw you."
