Naoki Yoshida revealed more details about the development of Square Enix's highly anticipated JRPG

Final Fantasy XVI, the new installment in the popular Japanese role-playing franchise, is very close to hitting stores. While the hype is through the roof, it is undeniable that a sector of the community is disappointed by the exclusivity with PlayStation 5. At the end of the day, not all players own Sony's next-gen console. However, it seems that the title could have landed on another platform.

In a recent interview with the Final Fantasy Union YouTube channel, producer Naoki Yoshida revealed new details about Square Enix's highly anticipated JRPG. During the final moments of the conversation, he revealed that the team had plans to release a version for PlayStation 4.

FINAL FANTASY XVI FOR PS4 COULD HAVE BEEN A REALITY

"What I can say is that, while we were originally making it, we had a plan to release the game for PlayStation 4. During development, we realized that to take it to a level that we would be proud of, we would need at least 1 or 2 more years of development," the Japanese creative revealed in the conversation.

Immediately, the producer confesses that they did not want the production of the video game to take too long, so they canceled the PS4 port. However, at no time does he reveal the point at which that decision was made. In addition, he refrained from revealing if Sony's intervention had anything to do with it.

"I had to make a decision at that time. It was like, 'okay, we don't want to extend it that much. Let's just go for the PS5 version'," commented Naoki Yoshida.

It seems that discarding the old generation version was the right decision. In recent months, both the producer and the rest of the team have praised the power of the PlayStation 5. In fact, director Hiroshi Takai stated that Final Fantasy XVI would still be in development if it weren't for Sony's next-gen console.

But tell us, what do you think of these statements? Let us know in the comments.
