Ecumene Aztec, a game with an Aztec theme, angers Spanish fascists

Radical groups are against the game and even trying to sabotage it with a fake website

A few days ago, the game with the theme of the Aztec Empire and its clash with the Spanish Empire, Ecumene Aztec, made waves by dividing opinions, receiving some criticisms for being historically inaccurate, but ultimately achieved its goal of getting noticed. However, what no one expected is that this would cause the fury of far-right groups who are now trying to sabotage it.

SPANISH FASCISTS ARE FURIOUS ABOUT THE RELEASE OF ECUMENE AZTEC

According to a report by The Verge, Giantscraft Games, who appears as the publisher of Ecumene Aztec, is in the middle of controversy after Spanish fascist groups created an Instagram account and an "official" website with the name of the company. The goal is for those interested in the Aztec-themed video game to reach that account or site, but instead of finding details about this title, they find images and phrases celebrating Spanish imperialism and the fascist ideologies of far-right groups in that country.

Unfortunately, the Instagram account of the Spanish fascist groups notes that Giantscraft did not register the giantscraft.com domain, so they took advantage of the opportunity as soon as the video game was revealed to create confusion.

For its part, the publisher reported that the official project account is ecumenegames.com but also revealed that since the presentation of Ecumene Aztec, they have been attacked and harassed by far-right groups and have even received death threats because some couldn't tolerate that in the video game, it's possible to eliminate Spanish forces.

Ecumene Aztec is a survival RPG that at times looks like a kind of Assassin's Creed. As presented, only the forces of the Aztec Empire can be controlled, however, some players asked the development team that it be possible to play with the Spanish or join them to do missions together, in order to relive historically recorded moments that led to the fall of Tenochtitlán.
