A mysterious Xbox messagemade some gamers believe that Psychonauts 3 was a reality and was already on its way. Tim Schafer, head of Double Fine, is aware of this, so he decided to talk about it to answer the doubts of the community and control their hype.
The renowned developer participated in an interview on YouTube channel Cressup (via Pure Xbox). There he confirmed that Double Fine is already preparing a surprise for its fans, but he also shared some news that disappointed Psychonauts fans.
Double Fine is working on something new, but it's not Psychonauts 3
Schafer was clear and revealed that Double Fine is not working on Psychonauts 3 for now. So the mysterious Xbox message was a false alarm. Of course, this information disappointed some fans of Raz and company; however, it's not all bad news.
The creative reaffirmed that they are already working on something new and that, probably, gamers will be able to know something about the project before the end of this year. So it's just a matter of waiting to find out what surprise Double Fine is preparing.
"We’re kind of at the ‘Willy Wonka, closed doors’ phase. But soon we could open and cause a lot of harm to a lot of children, just like Willy Wonka," said Schafer.
For some time now, we have known that Double Fine is working on several new, smaller projects. Schafer explained that the studio is divided into several teams and that some of them are in the experimentation phase. Their goal is to "explore new ideas, new visual styles or gameplay, emotions and more."
Unfortunately, fans of Psychonauts will have to be patient, as all indications are that the studio's new titles are not related to the popular franchise.
