There have been rumors for some time indicating that a new model of PlayStation 5 is on the way. While Sony has not said anything about it, now Microsoft claims that it will be released this year and even revealed its price.
As part of the documents in the lawsuit between Microsoft and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), it was revealed that the Xbox company believes that Sony is about to release a new PlayStation 5. Apparently, it is a Slim model, which would arrive this year.
According to Microsoft, the PlayStation 5 Slim will cost $399.99 USD, making it more affordable than the regular PS5. That said, it would cost the same as the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
"PlayStation also sells a cheaper Digital Edition for $399.99 USD, and it is expected to release a Slim PlayStation 5 at a later point this year at the same reduced price," Microsoft points out.
Reliable reports point to the existence of a PS5 Slim
It is unclear exactly why Microsoft believes that Sony is about to release a new model of PlayStation 5. That said, the reality is that there have been reliable sources for some time pointing to a revision of PlayStation 5 being in the works.
According to information from Insider Gaming, Sony is preparing a revision of the PlayStation 5. Apparently, this new console will be released in September 2023 and will be a PlayStation 5 with a removable disc drive.
Therefore, the idea would be for players to be able to buy this console and later acquire its disc drive separately if they are interested in purchasing physical games. It is said that the console will be offered in 2 versions: one that includes the console itself and another that includes the PlayStation 5 and its removable disc drive.
