Can you imagine buying a console and receiving another one for free by mistake? Well, that's exactly what happened to a player when he acquired his Steam Deck. Due to a mix-up, Valve sent 2 units of their handheld PC to NDAdrianM's house, who shared his curious story in a Reddit post.
Suddenly, the player found himself with 2 units of the system in his hands, even though he had only paid for one. So he decided to be honest and send back the extra unit he had received. To his surprise, Valve decided to reward him for this gesture and gave him a gift for his honesty.
Valve rewards player for returning a mistakenly received Steam Deck
NDAdrianM, a player from Canada, ordered a Steam Deck last month and continuously tracked its whereabouts to know when it would arrive. Suddenly, he realized that the handheld PC had been sent to another province. So he reported the error to Valve, assuming that the system would be returned to the company for a new shipment.
However, the player was surprised later on when, within a few days, he received 2 Steam Decks at his doorstep. Thus, the initial order never returned to Valve, and additionally, the company sent another unit to address NDAdrianM's report.
"I wasn't legally responsible to return the Deck to Valve. But I felt I should let Valve know anyway and return it," explained the player, who ultimately returned the extra handheld PC.
To his surprise, Valve offered him a gift for his honesty: a free game. NDAdrianM decided to choose Hogwarts Legacy to enjoy on his new system.
"I was also surprised that Valve offered me a free game when they saw that I returned it, and now I've been enjoying Hogwarts Legacy while commuting to work. Just wanted to share it! Valve is amazing, and I love supporting this company and its excellent customer service," said the player, completely satisfied with his choice.
