The gaming industry is in mourning. This afternoon, news broke of the passing of Emile Morel, a game designer who served as the creative director of Beyond Good and Evil 2.
As reported by IGN, this news emerged after two individuals who worked with Morel expressed their condolences for his death on LinkedIn. In separate messages, they bid farewell to the creative and mourned his absence.
"A cherished colleague for over a decade at Ubisoft Montpellier, we laughed and cried through good times and bad, and released a ton of great games together. Emile was incredibly proud of Beyond Good and Evil 2, the Space Monkeys, and his teammates. We will miss him dearly," said M. Gabrielle Shrager, a former colleague of Morel, in a LinkedIn post.
Morel began working at Ubisoft in June 2009. During his time at the company, he served as a senior designer on Rayman Legends. He later took on the role of associate creative director on Beyond Good & Evil 2 and subsequently took charge of the project following Jean-Marc Geffroy's departure from Ubisoft.
As of now, Ubisoft has not made any comments regarding this news.
At LEVEL UP, we mourn the loss of Emile Morel and extend our condolences to his loved ones. We also hope that the creative finds peace in his final rest.
