A shareholder wants to see the return of Xenogears

Square Enix is one of the longest-standing companies in the gaming industry. Despite its stumbles, throughout its history, it has delivered games that have now become cult classics with passionate communities surrounding them. Is there a possibility of seeing classic titles return with a remaster?

The Japanese company released Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, a collection that includes enhanced versions of the first 6 installments of the fantasy series. Apparently, the project was well-received by fans and players in general. Will its success motivate the developers to create more remasters of retro games?

This was one of the questions asked during the Q&A session of Square Enix's 43rd Annual Shareholders' Meeting. "Final Fantasy I-VI Pixel Remaster has been well-received. Are there plans to remaster other previous titles? Personally, I would like to play Xenogears," questioned a shareholder present at the meeting.

"We will refrain from sharing information about new titles, but we are considering various ideas within the company, and we hope you look forward to future announcements," responded a member of the company's board of directors.

Indeed, Square Enix already has remasters of classic video games in the works. We must remember that Star Ocean: The Second Story R, an enhanced version of the second installment of the PS1 franchise, was recently announced. Additionally, the remake of Dragon Quest III and the second part of Final Fantasy VII are currently in development.

When asked about the "longer gaps between game releases," the Japanese company acknowledged that game development is becoming increasingly complicated.

"I will refrain from going into detail, but I will say that we believe strengthening our internal development organization will be beneficial as the difficulty of creating major titles becomes extremely high, which also has implications for development timelines. We hope that this strengthening of our organization will promote the development not only of major titles but also of new IP under the new management team," Square Enix stated.

But tell us, which game would you like to see remastered or remade? Let us know in the comments.
