2023 has been filled with incredible games, so the competition for the GOTY will be fierce. Some players already have their favorite to win the top prize at The Game Awards; however, the majority of the community believes that the real competition will come down to Starfield and The Legend Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Despite Bethesda's game not having been released yet, fans of the studio are convinced that it will be a great title and a worthy candidate for GOTY. Several players even believe that it will surpass Nintendo's game, despite the sequel being a resounding success.
Players fear that Starfield will lose the GOTY to Zelda
Starfield promises to be one of the most ambitious games in Bethesda's history. This is enough for players to believe that it will be the GOTY this year. Part of the community is afraid that The Legend Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will snatch the award and considers it to be unfair.
From their perspective, several players and media outlets suffer from some kind of bias towards Nintendo's franchise. Likewise, it is believed that the hype for Tears of the Kingdom has already passed and that it wasn't as big as that of Breath of the Wild.
"I would say it will be Starfield. People still talk about Breath of the Wild, while Tears of the Kingdom seems to have already faded away," commented one player.
On the other hand, there are also fans who see Starfield as a GOTY contender; however, they believe it has little chance against The Legend Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This is due to the significance of Nintendo's saga compared to a new IP.
"I don't think it stands a chance against Tears of the Kingdom, which is sad because I don't think Tears of the Kingdom is that good. However, it has massive appeal, and as you said, there is a bias towards Zelda," another fan affirmed.
Finally, part of the community asked for patience from the players since Starfield has not yet debuted, and its scope and impact are unknown. Some fully trust the game, but there are also people who doubt it because of Bethesda's track record.
